System Monitoring Shootout Seven

Kris Buytaert and Tom De Cooman have posted the slides to their OLS 2008 talk:  “Systems Monitoring Shootout”.

For anyone evaluating monitoring solutions, it is a great read. They’ve obviously done a lot of research and if nothing else highlight a huge bunch of issues and topics you would want to consider when selecting a product.

They start out with seven contenders:

Munin seems to us a curious omission.

A quick overview of each follows, before they pick a short-list of four:

  • Hyperic HQ
  • Nagios
  • Zabbix
  • Zenoss

Sadly, they don’t seem to be able to declare a winner — consultants eh ;)

They do give a huge number of pros, cons and points to consider.

Really useful stuff.
