We’ve recently been learning and using git, the version control or distributed source code management tool, similar to Mercurial or Bazaar.
There’s some really good documentation out there already, however we wanted a simple step-by-step tutorial that guided you through learning git without cluttering the process by explaining a whole bunch of theoretical jargon or concepts first.
Which is not to say jargon or concepts are bad things, but rather that we wanted a simple hands on guide we could follow along with.
Or perhaps just writing our own guide helped us understand git better.
Linus Torvalds (git’s initial author) gave a talk at Google about git.
He spent a lot of time talking about the distributed nature of git and why this is such a compelling feature.
If you replace “Developers” with “Distributed” and think back to that whacky Steve Ballmer video….
As ever, suggestions or feedback by email or in the comments below are most welcome. And don’t forget to read our git by example guide too!
